Working on a new music video for the Mares of Thrace. They are a great two piece band. Not just a two piece, but a metal two piece. A good metal two piece.
And it’s two women… and they’re good looking (you’ll see)!

It’s a very unique musical project… I hope the video does them justice.

Is that a word? No? Well I think it accurately communicates my thoughts.

I submitted three ads, two made the final 12. This one, that I love:

And this one that is a good beer ad, but not as good as the one above, IMO:

I thought it was a LOCK for gold with the first one… I’m really proud of it. They announced the bronze… “It’s Light” won! Awesome! Now I’ll for sure win gold with Trophy wall!

Silver comes and goes. I don’t win but that;s OK, I’m shooting for gold anyway.

Gold is announced… not me. Huh? I couldn’t see how “It’s Light” could beat” Trophy Wall”…. still don’t.

This doesn’t bode well for the…..

Videos

I didn’t expect to win this since our video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJfuOkhilVo) isn’t a ‘buildup to one punchline’ that most winners seem to be, but I was hoping to place in the top three.

The audience response made it pretty clear that the way to go is the ‘buildup to one punchline’, as did the judges top selections. Needless to say we didn’t make the top three.

Ah well, it was a great experience making and editing the vid, got to use my new lights and the event itself was great.

Next year: one punchline, less location work.

I didn’t get an award, but the shots I took for helped Mark’s (Work Wearhouse) get a design award.

I’ll include a number of the Mark’s photos with my site redesign - I really enjoy the Real Estate/Architectural shoots.

So what have I been up to? A few things:

Working on a site revamp. I’ve got the intro page done, but I’m just not sure if it’s the direction I want to go.

Working on my Big Rock Eddies submission. I have high hopes for this!

Band pics - I’ve done quite a few recently. I like it.

Real estate - a couple R.E. shoots, including my own place… we sold our place in one day!

So I’m still alive. I’ll be updating the site soon.

I learned this lesson at a young age (I think it was with the first guitar amp I bought around 16 or 17) but it’s only been within the last few years that I’ve adjusted my purchases appropriately.

John Ruskin wrote in 1874:

It’s unwise to pay too much, but it’s worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money — that is all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. Here is a new music video I shot for Ricca Razor Sharp. We filmed this at his place, in my studio and around Calgary.

Originally I had some credits during the intro that looked like old school Dot Matrix printing, plus I had the ol’ Dot Matrix sound as the letters appeared on screen. To my surprise most people in the demographic had no idea what the sound was and didn’t ‘get’ the relationship to the font, so I turfed it. I guess I should’ve expected that, but I thought it was kinda clever.
